New Owendo International Port
Based in Gabon, New Owendo International Port (NOIP) is the operator of the multipurpose bulk port of Owendo. Since 2019, STOA has been a shareholder, with the aim of helping to boost the national economy and reduce its dependence on oil production.
The Challenges
Despite its abundant natural wealth, Gabon is struggling to diversify its economy. It is still heavily dependent on the oil industry, which has been a major source of its development, accounting for 38.5% of the country’s GDP and 70.5% of its exports in 2020.
The Project
The port of Owendo, 27 kilometres south of Libreville, has a nominal capacity of 4 million tonnes. It mainly handles exports of processed or semi-processed products, from liquids to fish products, including wood products, one of the country’s most dynamic industries: veneers, plywood, furniture, etc. The multimodal terminal benefits from privileged access by sea, road and rail, integrating it into Gabon’s industrial framework and contributing to the diversification of the country’s economy. By improving the quality of services offered to ships transiting through Gabon, the New International Port of Owendo is also helping to boost maritime transport in the country.
We are pleased to count STOA among our strategic partners. Together, we are developing essential infrastructure that will contribute to Gabon’s economic growth and diversification.
