Octotel & RSAWeb

Both based in South Africa, Octotel is a leading open-access fibre network operator, and RSAWeb is an Internet Service Provider. In 2024, STOA invested in Octotel and RSAWeb to help reduce the digital divide and stimulate economic growth in the Western Cape region.

Challenges

In South Africa, the digital divide limits access to job opportunities, education, and economic participation—especially for underserved communities. Reliable, high quality and affordable internet connectivity is essential for businesses to grow, individuals to access remote work opportunities, and students to engage in online learning.

The Project

Since 2016, Octotel has been providing high-speed fibre internet to over 120,000 homes and businesses. Its network reachs 370,000 residential and business premises, primarily in the Western Cape. As an open-access fibre provider, Octotel promotes competition among Internet Service Providers (ISPs), driving down costs and increasing accessibility.

RSAWeb, South Africa’s best-rated Internet Service Provider, complements Octotel’s offering by providing high-quality, cutting-edge connectivity, mobile data, and cloud solutions to homes and businesses across the country. With high-speed, reliable, and customer-centric solution, RSAWeb enhances the digital experience for thousands of South Africans and enables businesses, especially SMEs, to access quality internet to improve operations, expand, and create new jobs.

STOA’s investment and support accelerate the expansion of Octotel and RSAWeb’s network expansion and digital infrastructure. With world-class connectivity, high-quality internet access, and high-speed solutions, both companies can meet the growing demand from individuals and businesses. The goal: to strengthen digital inclusion while contributing to economic growth and job creation in South Africa.

Trevor Van Zyl, PDG d’Octotel

Joining forces with AIIM, STOA and Thebe marks an exciting chapter for Octotel and RSAWeb. Together, we are poised to accelerate our mission of delivering cutting-edge connectivity solutions, bolstering economic growth and fostering innovation across the region.
