STOA, as an Impact Fund, is committed to investing in projects that not only provide financial returns, but also contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The E&S teams of the companies in STOA’s portfolio are playing a key role on the ground in their respective countries and projects. To support their actions, STOA organized a two-day peer-to-peer ESG event in its premises in Paris on the 16th and 17 th of October 2024. In a context of growing expectations from various stakeholders on ESG and Impact performance (customers, investors, lenders, regulator, public…), having an opportunity to advance the E&S agenda and discuss E&S topics was key.

These two days of exchanges and conversations were an amazing opportunity to share knowledge, methodologies and case studies on specific topics. Case studies covered various sectors (hydropower, solar, wind, transportation and logistics, health…) and countries (Uganda, Cameroon, Morocco, Malawi, Brazil). International standards (IFC Performance Standards) and European standards (European regulations on sustainable finance) were also discussed.

The agenda included:

  • Environmental and Social Management System development and implementation;
  • Strengthening stakeholder engagement with communities and NGOs;
  • Gender equality and GBVH (Gender Based Violence and Harassment) within communities and workers;
  • Resettlement and community development: Census, compensation operations (cash/in-kind), additional support to the project affected people;
  • Biodiversity footprint calculation;
  • European regulations on sustainable finance and reporting (CSRD, SFRD, EU Taxonomy);
  • Good environmental and social practices for major construction works;
  • Energy efficiency for buildings;
  • Climate adaptation and decarbonation strategies.

Each participant found some inspiration and is bringing back home some useful insights to implement on the ground.
