Africa’s Telecom Evolution: An Analysis by Analysys Mason

As part of the production of the 2024 Impact Report, STOA commissioned the consulting firm Analysys Mason to conduct an analysis on the deployment of fixed broadband in Africa and its future prospects. The resulting document explores key developments in Africa’s telecommunications landscape, emphasizing the slow adoption of FTTx and the challenges operators face in ensuring reliable power supply. It also examines decarbonization strategies, the rising demand for data centers, rural connectivity initiatives, and the potential for 5G expansion in emerging markets, highlighting the steps required to close the gap with more developed regions.
